Boston is the capital of Massachusetts and the hub of New England group travel. The Boston Marathon on Patriots’ Day, the third Monday in April, closes Boylston Street and much of Back Bay for the finish and fills hotels across the metro. The Red Sox play at Fenway Park from April into October, and the Bruins and Celtics share TD Garden from October into spring, with concerts filling open dates. The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center and the Hynes host trade shows and conventions year-round, and the Fourth of July Esplanade concert and fireworks close Storrow Drive and the river’s edge. Head of the Charles Regatta weekend in October brings rowing crowds to the Charles River between Boston and Cambridge, and college commencements in May fill hotels near every campus.

What affects the price

Boston totals are driven by time rather than distance. Fenway and TD Garden releases, Marathon Monday and Fourth of July closures, and Seaport convention move-outs add waiting and staging, and several hotel pickups across Back Bay and the Seaport multiply boarding time. Logan runs add tunnel tolls and terminal queues, and Interstate 90 and Interstate 93 congestion is routine at rush hour. Paid or remote staging is common because curb space is scarce. Ask providers to itemize minimum hours, deadhead, tolls, airport charges, parking, waiting, gratuity, and overtime; availability varies by date, vehicle, and provider, so confirm every line in writing.

Timing and seasonality

Marathon Monday in mid-April opens the busy season with Back Bay closures, followed by May commencements and the start of Red Sox home games at Fenway. Summer brings the Fourth of July Esplanade closures, Seaport conventions, and cruise-ship traffic at the Black Falcon terminal. Fall adds Head of the Charles Regatta weekend in October and the start of Bruins and Celtics seasons at TD Garden. Winter nor’easters can close tunnels, cancel flights, and strand vehicles, so build weather contingencies into December through March trips and recheck Massport and city notices before the date.
