Planning a group trip in Mexico City
Distance on a Mexico City map tells you almost nothing about travel time. Santa Fe to Polanco to the Centro Histórico can take a fraction of its off-peak time or several times as long, depending on the hour, the day, and whether an event or a march has closed part of Reforma. Plan from the fixed arrival — a stadium gate time, a reservation in Roma or Condesa, a flight — and work backwards. Write each stop as a full address rather than a colonia, and ask how much buffer the company builds between stops at your hour of travel.
Venues and loading points in Mexico City
Big venues here run their own traffic plans on event days, and the streets around them are controlled long before doors open. Estadio Azteca in the south, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez complex in the east — home to the Mexican Grand Prix and to stadium concerts on the grounds — and the Palacio de los Deportes nearby each have set areas for buses and charter vehicles, and they are rarely the public entrance. Ask the venue or promoter where a group vehicle can drop off and wait, and pick a separate pickup landmark for afterwards, when the avenues empty slowly and on foot first.
Airport transfers in Mexico City
Mexico City is served by two commercial airports that sit far apart. Benito Juárez International (MEX) is inside the city with two terminals that are not interchangeable, and Felipe Ángeles International (NLU) is well to the north, so a run from AIFA to the south or west of the city is a long trip on its own. Send the airline, flight number, terminal, how many people and bags, and anyone with mobility needs, then get the designated pickup area and the wait-time rate if the flight is delayed.
Dates and seasons that tighten supply
The rainy season, roughly June to September, brings heavy afternoon and evening storms that flood streets and slow the whole city at exactly the hours groups travel. National holidays and big public celebrations — Independence in mid-September and the Día de Muertos stretch at the turn of October and November — close central streets for long periods, and Grand Prix weekend packs demand into the east. Book early for those dates and ask what the company does if a closure blocks your route.
Licensing and what to verify
Passenger transport in the capital is regulated by the city, and trips that leave it — to Teotihuacán, Puebla, Cuernavaca or Valle de Bravo — can fall under state or federal requirements too. Mexico City also runs Hoy No Circula, which limits which vehicles can drive on given days based on plate and emissions status.
