Tailgating turns the bus into a base camp. Unlike a straight stadium drop-off, the vehicle stays in the lot with the group through the pre-game hours, the game, and the exit, which puts the venue's rules for buses and oversize vehicles in charge of what is possible. Some venues sell a bus or RV lot pass and allow grills. Others park buses in a remote lot with no tailgating at all. College campuses often have their own game-day rules. Read the venue's game-day parking page for the bus or RV lot: where it is, whether a pass has to be bought ahead, when it opens, whether grills, charcoal or propane, tents, and coolers are allowed, and when tailgating has to stop. For a college game, check the athletics department's game-day guide too, because it often differs from the stadium's general rules. Plan to arrive at the lot-opening time if you want a good spot, and plan the exit knowing buses leave after most of the cars. Tell the provider the vehicle will be parked and occupied all day, and ask three things: does the driver stay with it, can the group use its power or audio while parked, and does the provider allow a grill or tent near it. Then assign someone to pack up before the game ends.

Choosing a vehicle size

Tailgate groups usually run twenty to forty fans, which points to a mid-size or large party bus with perimeter seating and, ideally, a luggage bay or rear storage for coolers, chairs, and a grill. Federal bus rules require baggage to be stowed clear of the aisle and exits, so a party bus with no storage limits what comes along. What affects the price

Tailgate cost is mostly hours, and the hours are long: the vehicle is on the clock from pickup, through three or four pre-game hours, the game itself, and a slow crawl out of the lot. Add the venue's bus lot pass or permit where one is required, and ask who buys it and whether it is passed through at cost. Then weekend and rivalry-game dates, and miles for an away game. Cleaning terms matter because food, drink, and mud all come aboard. Safety, rules, and what to verify

Three sets of alcohol rules meet at a tailgate: the state's open-container rules for the vehicle, which often differ for chartered vehicles; the venue's rules about drinking in the lot; and the company's own policy on coolers, cans, and glass. Ask your provider and read the state page under /locations for wherever the game is. Early-season games are hot. The National Weather Service warns that heat is hard on everyone and especially on children, older adults, and people with chronic conditions, and that no one should ever be left in a parked vehicle.
